A Drop in the Ocean
13.5” x 8” x 9”
Earthenware, slab builtHaving lived by the sea in Hong Kong, an issue dear to my heart is working with organizations for preserving ocean ecosystems. For this gallery vase project, I wanted to reflect how coral reefs are essential to the ocean’s survival, yet too often overlooked; although in nature, the sea holds the coral reefs, the vase built from coral is holding the water. Challenging the architectural slab-building techniques demonstrated in class, I created my own technique, using straight edges and flat slabs as a way to make organic and dimensional forms.
