Moon Jars originate from the Joseon period in Korea, traditionally round vessels smoothly glazed in white to reassemble the moon, used to hold flowers or wine, but also as ritual vessels. Loosely inspired by the moon jar, mine tells the ancient Chinese myth for the Jade Rabbit using the coil-building process both as a structure but also as decoration for the outside. The words moon jar did not motivate me to make a circular jar, rather the object of the moon made me reflect on a culture that is important to my identity.
